Plans are underway to salute the Bents’ celebrated travels in the Cyclades with a bench and event in their memory on one of their favourite islands – a chance to rest on a long walk, for refreshment, take in the view, and catch up with Theodore and Mabel.

It is hoped that the event will include a design competition for the bench/seat, invitations to a reception, and a day of lectures/talks related to the Bents’ happy months in the Cyclades in 1883/4.

Recent suggestions for the Anafi Bent Memorial Bench to commemorate Theodore and Mabel Bent and their Anafiot dragoman, Matthew Simos, have included:

The Bent Niche/Grotto (an idea from Kasos) (The Bent Archive)
Again from Kasos, Bent Bench in Stone (The Bent Archive)
